Privacy Policy
Last updated 2 July 2026 · Teacher Buddy (teacher-buddy-class-manager) · Published by Bract Studio
Teacher Buddy is committed to protecting the privacy of its users — teachers — and of the students whose records they manage. This policy describes how information is collected, used, stored and shared, including the Google Drive backup feature.
1. Offline-first, and you own the data
Local-first storage. Teacher Buddy is an offline-first utility. By
default everything you enter — student details, attendance, behaviour, grades, fee records
and photos — is stored on your device's local storage in an Isar database.
- No developer access. We do not own, operate or maintain any server that
collects or stores your student data. We cannot access, read or modify the classroom records
you enter into the app.
- Google Drive backup. If you turn the backup feature on, the app uploads
a zipped backup of your local database and images directly to your own Google Drive
account. It goes from your device to Google — it never passes through or is stored on
any server we own or control.
2. What is processed on your device
Because all data is stored locally, the following is processed on your device:
Classroom and student data
- Student profiles — names, roll numbers, and parent or guardian contact details.
- Student photos — images uploaded or taken with your device's camera.
- Attendance logs — present, absent, late, excused.
- Behaviour records — performance notes, ratings and observations.
- Academic records — homework tracking, exam schedules and grades.
- Library logs — book checkouts and return statuses.
Financial tracking (ledger records)
- Fee records — fee types, amounts due, amounts paid, payment dates and history.
Teacher Buddy does not process credit cards, bank accounts or digital
payments. All financial tracking is manual bookkeeping only.
Google account and Drive integration
- Google Sign-In account info — when you connect your Google account for
backups, the app temporarily accesses your account email and authentication token via OAuth,
solely to authenticate your session with Google Drive.
- Google Drive backups — the app creates a folder in your Drive named
Teacher Buddy Backups and uploads ZIP archives there. It reads, lists, deletes
and downloads files only inside that app-created folder.
3. How the information is used
Solely to provide the app's core features:
- To maintain your student, classroom, attendance, academic, behaviour and ledger records locally.
- To perform manual or daily automated backups to your local downloads folder or your own Google Drive.
- To restore your data from a previous backup when you instruct the app to do so.
4. Google API Services User Data Policy — Limited Use
Teacher Buddy's Google Drive integration uses the restricted scope
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.file. That scope lets the app view, modify
and delete only files and folders it created or that you explicitly opened with it — in
practice, the Teacher Buddy Backups folder and the ZIP files inside it.
Limited Use disclosure. Teacher Buddy's use and transfer to any other app
of information received from Google APIs adheres to the
Google API
Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
We do not use Google Drive API data to serve advertisements, transfer data to third-party
networks, or sell data. It is used strictly to upload, list, download and delete the backup ZIP
files the app creates at your explicit request.
5. Sharing and disclosure
- No third-party sharing. We do not sell, rent or share your data or your
students' data with any third party, advertising network or analytics partner.
- Personal cloud storage. Drive backups sit in your own Google account and
are subject to Google's privacy policy.
- Local sharing. If you use "Create Backup", you may share the ZIP through
your device's share sheet. That action is entirely yours to initiate.
6. Data security
- Sandboxing. The database is kept inside the app's private sandbox,
protected by the operating system's standard security controls.
- Encryption in transit. Uploads to Google Drive are transmitted over
HTTPS.
7. Retention and deletion
- Local data — delete everything at any time by clearing the app's data in
device settings, or by uninstalling.
- Drive backups — delete them from the app's "Link Google Drive" settings,
or by opening the
Teacher Buddy Backups folder in Google Drive and deleting it.
- Retention — the app keeps only the last 5 backups in
your Drive, to avoid clutter and conserve your storage.
8. Children's privacy (COPPA)
Teacher Buddy is designed for teachers, educators and school administrators — adults over
18. Although the app tracks student information which may include children under 13,
the app does not collect student information directly from children. All
student data is entered manually by the educator, who is responsible for obtaining any
necessary school, district or parental consent under local regulations such as COPPA in the
United States or the GDPR in Europe.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you by posting the new policy in
the app's documentation or by updating the “Last updated” date above.
